Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What services does the Grants Office provide?
A: Resource development, including funding research and analysis for district and campus initiatives and proposal development services; training and consultation services in support of grant management and compliance; technical assistance related to grants; and contract development.
Q: What do I do if I want to apply for a grant?
A: Once a potential source of funding is identified and preliminary approval has been granted by the district/campus administration, the Grants Office will assist the district/campus administration by developing an analysis of the impact of the grant and the feasibility of winning an award. Final approval by the district/campus administration ensures that the grant is in alignment with the strategic plan of the district/campus.
Q: Will the Grants Office prepare the grant application for me?
A: The Grants Office provides varying degrees of proposal development assistance based on the complexity of the proposal, the assistance requested and the availability of staff to work on the proposal. In cases where proposals are written by individuals outside of the Grants Office, our office should be involved in or consulted with in the development of the grant budget.
Q: When should I contact the Grants Office?
A: As soon as you obtain district/campus administration approval to submit a grant application.
Q: How much funding could I be awarded?
A: Some programs offer as little as a one-time-only $5,000 award while others offer upwards of $400,000 per year for as many as five years. The average award is approximately $200,000 per year for three years.
Q: What are my chances of winning?
A: The environment is very competitive at this time, but the Grants Office can provide expert advice regarding what a proposal should include to improve the chances of award.
Q: I've just won a grant. What do I do now?
A: Contact Colleen Molko at extension 8932 for grants management training and resources.
