Norco Campus Clubs

The Student Activities Office is charged with the development and implementation of co-curricular programs on the RCC Norco Campus. Our service area provides opportunities for student involvement in campus life through participation in clubs, student organizations, student government, cultural activities, performing arts, educational lectures, entertainment, and recreational activities.

Mission

The intent of the Student Activities Program is to create a learning environment that allows students to implement theories learned in the classroom and to develop skills that can be transferred well into their professional and community endeavors.

Philosophy Statement

The staff of the Student Activities program, in collaboration with the Associated Students of Norco Campus and clubs, is dedicated in providing students with opportunities to develop leadership skills through participation in student government and co-curricular programs.  It is our firm belief that when the students get involved in campus activities they enhance their college experience and develop lasting friendships as well as professional skills.

Strengths/Accomplishments

• Increased ethnic, gender, and age diversity among student leaders and student government senators and executive directors that participate in the design and implementation of student activities.
• Maintained a steady number of chartered and sponsored clubs on campus.
• Developed and sustained a comprehensive and diverse activities calendar.
• Initiated and sustained a successful campus wide paper recycling program.
• Increased student involvement in campus governance.
• Increased faculty support for student activities.
• Serve as an information clearinghouse for all campus activities.
• Support all Student Services programs with volunteers and supplies as needed

Areas of Concern

• Limited space for conferences, student government and club meetings, and indoor student activities
• Lack of a work room for the preparation of student activities
• High rates of turnover for student leaders in between semesters; concerns of consistency
• Ever rising costs for equipment and supplies combined with stagnant district funding for student activities and club sponsoring
• Need for full time staffing and administrative support  for the Student Activities office operations

Service Area Outcomes (SAO) and Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)

As a result of participation in student leadership workshops, students will learn their personal leadership style.

Expected Outcome:

90% of students who participating in workshop will complete and subsequently will be able to identify their personal leadership style.

Actual Outcome:

Students who hold positions in student government will have higher persistence rates and Grade Point Averages in comparison to the general student body.
