Bookstore
Bookstore
The bookstore is operated by Barnes and Noble and sells a variety of items, in addition to textbooks. These items include scantrons, bluebooks, office supplies, snacks, Riverside Community College campus gear, limited over-the-counter medications and personal necessities, supplemental learning materials, and Barnes and Noble gift cards.
Purchasing Books and Supplies
The cost of textbooks and equipment varies depending upon the courses selected, student's academic field of study and the amount of units carried. Full-time students (12 or more units) spend an average of $400 per term in book expenses.
Used books are sometimes available through the bookstore and can help students save money. Textbooks are generally stocked in the bookstore three weeks prior to the beginning of the semester and students are encouraged to buy their books in advance. Students receiving financial aid may not receive their checks until several weeks into the semester; yet, they will need their textbooks at the start of the term. Students receiving financial aid are encouraged to save money to ensure they can purchase their books in a timely manner.
In some cases, students will be expected to provide consumable items. In such cases, students will be informed of these items at the first class meeting and will be expected to purchase them in order to continue in these classes. Whenever possible, the bookstore will attempt to stock the required supplies.
Methods of Payment
The bookstore accepts a variety of forms of payment including cash, major credit cards, money orders, and Barnes and Noble gift cards. Credit cards will only be accepted from the person whose name appears on the card. A valid photo identification is also required for all credit card purchases. Parents who wish to pay for their student's books with a credit card should accompany their student to the bookstore or use an alternative means of payment.
Refund Policies
Text Book Policy
Fall and Spring Semesters with a Receipt
In the event that a student purchases the wrong book, full refunds are only given during the first week of school. If you drop a class you have 30 days from the start of the semester to return your books with a proof of schedule change. Refunds also cannot be given on custom course materials, outlines, study guides, and magazines.
Winter and Summer with a Receipt
Because of the short nature of winter and summer terms, refunds can only be given one week after the start of class.
Without a Receipt
Refunds on textbooks will not be given without a receipt.
Merchandise Refund Policy
Refunds with a Receipt
Full refunds are given for merchandise in its original condition and with a valid receipt. Refunds will be given in the same manner as the original form of payment received. Software must be unopened to qualify for a refund or exchange.
Refunds without a Receipt
Merchandise credit will be given at the current selling price. Cash back on merchandise credits will not exceed $10.
Book Buy-Back Policy
The bookstore has a program that allows students to sell back their used textbooks, earning up to 50% of the original price, providing that the books will be used again during the following term. Students who are interested in participating in this program should ensure they protect their books from excessive wear and tear. Book buy backs take place during designated times so students should be sure to look for posted schedules in the bookstore.
