Student Transfer and Academic Retention (STAR)

The Student Transfer and Academic Retention (STAR) Program offers qualifying students a strong academic support system and learning community that will assist them in mastering their college transitions.

The primary goal of the program is to increase the retention and graduation rates of students who are committed to transferring to a four-year institution by increasing their access and opportunity to higher education.

The STAR Program is 100% federally funded by the US Department of Education TRIO Programs and is free to all eligible students. The STAR Program is a student support services grant.

Students who participate in the STAR program receive a variety of benefits, including:

Priority Registration
Financial Aid Assistance and Grant Aid
Transfer and Financial Aid Workshops
One-on-One Academic Advising and Guidance Regarding Educational Goals
Tutoring Services
College and University Visits
Cultural Field Trips
Career and Leadership Development: Supports each student's individual career options, and prepares the student for leadership in the community

To qualify as an STAR student, you must be:

A first-generation college student, low-income, or disabled
Meet the Department of Education's income and/or family educational requirements
Committed in transferring to a four-year institution
Be a full-time student (12 Units or more)
Maintain a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) or better
Submit a completed application and attend a student interview with college staff

Complete the STAR application.
Return the completed application to the STAR staff member or counselor.
Obtain income verification.
Sign STAR contract.
