Steps to Attend Classes at RCC

Step 1 - Apply to RCC
- You may apply if you:
- Have graduated from high school,
- Have passed the CA High School Proficiency Exam,
- Did not graduate but have attained a Certificate of Completion,
- Have passed the GED examination,
- Did not graduate but are 18 years of age or older,
- Are a high school student who has satisfied the concurrent enrollment admissions requirements, or
- Are an international student who has satisfied the international student admissions requirements.
- You may turn in an application in online at www.rcc.edu. Applications are processed in 24 hours (weekends & holidays excluded)
- Help is available in the Admissions offices on each campus.
- You'll receive a Welcome Letter in the mail with your RCC Student ID Number.
Step 2 - Apply for Financial Aid
- Fill out the FAFSA online (www.fafsa.ed.gov) or on paper (available in the Student Financial Services Office).
- Get more information on scholarships, grants, and loans at the Student Financial Services website: www.rcc.edu/studentfinancialservices. There may be some supporting documentation you need to turn in to obtain financial aid.
Step 3 - Mail Your Transcripts
- Send your high school and college transcripts to RCC if you would like credit for a course completed at another institution.
- All transcripts must be official, sealed transcripts, printed no more than 90 days/3 months ago.
- Students who have their transcript on file and have completed a course at another institution for which they would like credit must fill out a Prerequisite Validation form
Step 4 - Complete Assessment, Orientation and Counseling
- Most first-time college students need to take the assessment test. Testing is done on a walk-in basis although some tests require appointments. For hours, check online (www.rcc.edu/services/assessment/date) or call:

- If take the assesment test you should sign up for the first available orientation after your assessment test. Orientation is intended to provide informative, practical advice about the college experience as a whole. To find out when an orientation is available, walk in or call the Counseling Office at:

Step 5 - Set up your RCC Mail Account and get your free RCCD College Card
- As a student of Riverside Community College you are now provided with free student email via Windows Live by Microsoft. You can find RCC Mail on the homepage at www.rcc.edu. Be sure to view the tutorial online to assist you. If you do not know your RCC email address, go to the WebAdvisor menu at www.rcc.edu. Click on What's My Email Address. When you log in for the first time your temporary password will be your 6 digit birth date.
- RCC Mail will provide important notices, new classes, schedule changes, wait list status, notices from Student Financial Services, faculty correspondence and more. While it’s important for you to open RCC Mail often to read important messages, you must do so at least once every 180 days or all messages will be deleted. You can also access RCC Mail directly by going to www.mail.live.com.
- The RCCD College Card is your Official Student ID, lab and library card.
- The College Card will also provide you with access to student activities on campus, and discounts for college athletic and performing arts events if you have paid your Student Services fee.
- Available at the Admissions office on all three campuses. Must present photo ID.

Step 6 - Register for Classes
- Go to WebAdvisor at www.rcc.edu and click on Log In Video for detailed log in instructions. See Check my Registration Dates/Holds.
- Registration dates are available 1-2 months before the term begins.
- View the Registration Video on WebAdvisor.
- Search for classes on WebAdvisor; you'll also receive a Schedule of Classes or you can download it on the web.
- Pay special attention to important dates (ex: the last day to add, drop with a refund, without a "W", or with a "W". On WebAdvisor click on Class Name/Deadlines.
- Remember, dropping your class is your responsibility. If you decide to stop attending, do not assume your instructor will drop it for you. It is your responsibility! If you do not attend and are not dropped from the class you will receive an "F" in the class and owe fees.
Step 7 - Pay Enrollment Fees
- Your fees are due after you enroll. Every term you will pay for your units, a health fee, a student services fee (optional), and parking (optional). You can pay over WebAdvisor using Visa or MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
- If you drop a class within the refund deadline, your refund will be returned to you 6-8 weeks after the term begins. It will be returned the same way you paid (cash or check will receive a check; credit card will be credited back to that account).
Step 8 - Buy Your Textbooks
- Take a copy of your schedule to the bookstore to find out what book you need to purchase for your classes.
Step 9 - Attend Class the First Day
- If enrolled in an online class, go to www.opencampus.com.
- If your plans change and you cannot attend, be sure to officially drop your classes, it's your responsibility.
- Arrive an hour early to find parking. Students are not ticketed the first two weeks (first week for Summer term) if they park in student spaces.
