Veteran's Assistance
Riverside Community College provides assistance to Veterans seeking to use the following Educational Benefits:
- Active Duty Educational Assistance Program, Montgomery GI Bill - Chapter 30
- Vietnam Era GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill - Chapter 34/30
- Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program, Montgomery GI Bill - Chapter 1606
- Vocational Rehabilitation - Chapter 31
- Post-Vietnam Era Veterans Educational Assistance Program - Chapter 32
- Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance Program - Chapter 35
- Reserve Educational Assistance Program - Chapter 1607
- Post-9/11 GI Bill - Chapter 33
Step 1 - RCC Admissions Application Process
- New and returning students apply online at www.rcc.edu
- New students complete assessment testing
- Call 951-222-8451or visit www.rcc.edu for Assessment Center information
- News students attend an orientation
- Call Counseling at (951)222-8440 to sign up.
- New and returning students will register for classes via Webadvisor on or after their assigned registration date.
Step 2a - First Time Using Benefits
- Chapter 30, 33, 1606 or 1607 - Apply with the VA - Form 22-1990
- Chapter 35 - Apply with the VA - Form 22-5490
- Apply online at www.gibill.va.gov/, or
- Obtain the 22-5490 from the RCC Veterans' Services Office
Note : Within 2-4 weeks, the VA will send you two copies of your Certificate of Eligibility. Bring one copy to the RCC Veterans' Services Office.
Step 2b - Currently or Previously Have Used Benefits
- Chapter 30, 33, 1606 or 1607
- Transfer your benefits to be used at RCC by turning in Form 22-1995 to the RCC Veterans' Services Office
- Forms can be found at https://www.va.gov/vaforms, or the RCC Veterans' Services Office
Step 3 - Request all Transcripts to be Mailed to RCC Veterans' Office
Veterans' Services Office, 4800 Magnolia Ave. Riverside, CA 92506
- Before your enrollment can be certified, all prior credit must be evaluated. Transcripts must be official, sealed, and less than 90 days old.
Transcripts necessary:
- Military transcripts (Army, National Guard, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard)
- All other College or University transcripts
- High School transcripts for certain educational programs.
Military Transcript Request Forms
* Include the RCC address (see above in bold lettering) on the transcript request and send your request to the address or the fax number on the form.
- Checking for received Transcripts
- Check on Web Advisor at www.rcc.edu to see if all of your transcripts have been received at RCC (under transcripts received).
- Call RCC Veterans' Services Office once all transcripts are recieved here at RCC to request to have your SEP completed.
Step 4a - Choosing a Program of Study
- Meet with a Counselor to choose a program of study
- Go to the Veterans Services Office to complete the process
Step 5 - Student Education Plan (SEP)
- After choosing your program, an SEP will be prepared by the Veterans' Services Counselor
- All assessment tests must be done and all official transcripts must be turned in for the SEP to be completed
- Processing time is approximately two weeks depending on the volume of SEPs
- When registering for classes refer to your copy of the SEP
- Only required classes listed on the SEP are payable by the VA
Step 6 - Certification
- Once enrolled in classes, fill out a Veteran's Statement of Responsibility (Blue Sheet)
- This is available in the RCC Veterans' Services Office and must be completed by the student each semester to request benefits
- The RCC Veterans' Services Office will check that the classes are payable before the enrollment certification is submitted to the VA.
- At the end of every month, Chapter 30, 33, 1606, and 1607 students must call (877) 823-2378 or go to www.gibill.va.gov/wave to verify their enrollment and receive payment
