Beyond the Beard: RCC Faculty and Staff Advocate for Men’s Health Awareness
Riverside City College (RCC) proudly joined the national No Shave November campaign, with male faculty and classified professionals coming together to promote awareness of critical men’s health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health.
The campaign encouraged participants to forego shaving for the month, sparking conversations about the importance of preventive health care and mental well-being. Beyond their growing beards, the participants used this opportunity to advocate for change, urging men to prioritize their health and well-being.
This year’s RCC participants represented a diverse cross-section of the college community, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the initiative. The following individuals joined the campaign:
- Kristopher Acevedo – Associate Faculty, Communication Studies; Educational Advisor, Adult Education & Extended Learning (Noncredit)
- David Alfaro – Assistant Professor, Counseling
- Jairo De Leon – Associate Professor, Counseling, EOPS
- Jose Diaz – Director of Upward Bound Programs

“These efforts exemplify the heart of RCC’s mission—to inspire, educate, and engage in meaningful ways,” said Jairo De Leon, Associate Professor, Counseling, EOPS. “We’re proud of the faculty and staff who took part in this initiative and used their platforms to shine a light on such an important cause.”
As RCC wraps up No Shave November, the conversations and awareness sparked by this initiative will continue to impact the campus and broader community. The college remains committed to fostering a culture of health, support, and inclusivity.
