Riverside City College Women’s Water Polo Ends Season with Thrilling Overtime Win at State Tournament
The Riverside City College (RCC) women’s water polo team capped an incredible season with a dramatic 19-18 overtime victory against No. 7-ranked West Valley College to secure third place at the 3C2A State Championship Tournament. The Tigers, ranked No. 2 in the state, conclude their season with an impressive 31-5 record.
In a game that showcased skill, resilience, and teamwork, standout performances propelled RCC to victory. After being held scoreless in their previous game, Yosra Elseifi made a powerful comeback, scoring six goals. Clare Baty added four goals, while Nicole Robertson and Abigail Ruiz each contributed three. Presley Burrell delivered two goals, including a crucial score to force overtime and the first goal in extra play, while Chandler Burrell added one.
The final overtime period saw the Tigers' determination shine as Robertson and Elseifi found the back of the net, coupled with a stellar defensive effort to secure the win. Goalie Sofia Mather played a pivotal role with 10 saves, anchoring RCC’s defense in the high-stakes matchup.
“This team has demonstrated heart, dedication, and tenacity all season,” said RCC athletics representitive. “I’m incredibly proud of the way they fought until the very end to finish the season on such a high note.”
