Riverside City College Women’s Volleyball Captures Second Consecutive Orange Empire Conference Championship
The No. 2-ranked Riverside City College (RCC) women’s volleyball team has secured its second consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship after a thrilling victory over No. 10-ranked Saddleback College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Tigers now boast an impressive 27-3 record, while Saddleback’s Bobcats hold a 19-11 record.
Chandler Burrell led the Tigers’ charge, scoring four goals and delivering three key assists, with teammate Yosra Elseifi contributing three goals to the win. Samantha Thomas and Abigail Ruiz each added two goals, while Clare Baty netted a penalty goal. Goalie Sofia Mather was instrumental in the Tigers’ defensive stand, recording five saves.
The Tigers set the tone early, with Thomas scoring a power-play goal just two minutes into the first quarter. Although the Bobcats quickly evened the score, Thomas struck again on a power play to reclaim the lead, which RCC maintained for the remainder of the game. Burrell delivered a critical goal less than 30 seconds into the final quarter, cementing the Tigers’ 12-9 championship victory.
Riverside City College now sets its sights on the SoCal Regional Championship, which will take place next weekend at Orange Coast College. Seedings for the regional tournament are yet to be determined.
“We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their dedication and teamwork throughout the season,” said a representative from RCC Athletics. “This back-to-back championship is a testament to their hard work and commitment.”
