Riverside City College Sponsors CCC LGBTQ Summit, Reinforcing Commitment to LGBTQIA2+ Students

Riverside City College (RCC) is proud to sponsor the California Community Colleges (CCC) LGBTQ Summit, reaffirming its dedication to the success and well-being of its LGBTQIA2+ students. In a time when the rights and humanity of transgender individuals and the broader queer community are under increasing scrutiny, RCC remains steadfast in its commitment to equity and inclusion.
"Supporting our LGBTQIA2+ students is at the heart of RCC's mission," said Al Weyant Forbes, PhD, Co-Chaor of Riverside City College's LGBTQIA2+ Association for Student Success and Equity (LASSE). "We strive to create a campus environment where every student feels seen, respected, and valued."
RCC actively works to reduce barriers and provide essential resources for LGBTQIA2+ students through initiatives like the Rainbow Engagement Center, Rainbow Learning Community, Sexuality and Gender Alliance, and the LGBTQIA2+ Association for Student Success and Equity. These programs not only foster community and connection but also promote academic and personal success.
The college's sponsorship of the CCC LGBTQ Summit highlights its ongoing efforts to advocate for and support LGBTQIA2+ students in higher education. As the fight for queer and trans rights intensifies, RCC stands as a champion for inclusivity and equitable access to education.
The CCC LGBTQ Summit, organized by the Foundation for California Community Colleges, serves as a vital platform for community colleges to share best practices, discuss policies, and create inclusive environments that empower LGBTQIA2+ students. The summit also emphasizes the significance of intersectionality, recognizing that LGBTQIA2+ students may face compounded barriers related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and disability. For RCC, participating in this summit means reinforcing its mission to create a safe, affirming space for all students, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
By supporting the summit, RCC joins a network of institutions dedicated to lifting up communities historically underserved by education, ensuring that all students have equitable opportunities to thrive. The college aims to amplify LGBTQIA2+ voices, encourage advocacy, and build a community where everyone can belong.
