Riverside City College (RCC) is proud to join the nation in celebrating Disability Pride Month this July. This significant month honors the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community, marking the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) enacted on July 26, 1990. As we commemorate Disability Pride Month, RCC reaffirms its commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment where all students and employees have the resources they need to thrive.

At the heart of our efforts is the Disability Resource Center (DRC), dedicated to working with students who have verified disabilities. The DRC ensures that these students have access to their programs of study through a variety of accommodations, services, and campus resources. From priority registration to adaptive furniture, the DRC provides comprehensive support to make educational experiences positive and successful for every student.

"We strive to create an inclusive environment where all students will succeed," shares RCC President Claire Oliveros. "Our DRC team is committed to working closely with students to determine their individual needs and provide the necessary resources to help them achieve their educational goals."

This year’s theme, “We Want a Life Like Yours,” reflects the community's dreams for life experiences often denied to people with disabilities. RCC Tigers are encouraged to engage with Disability Pride Month by learning from personal stories in articles that shine a light on what people with disabilities want society to know. Listening to these voices drives positive change. Explore disability rights by delving into key moments from disability rights history and engaging with media created by and with people with disabilities, such as “Crip Camp,” “CODA,” “Demystifying Disability,” and “Disability Visibility.”

If you are a person living with a disability, we encourage you to share your story by joining the conversation and using the hashtags #RCCDisabilityPride and #DisabilityPrideMonth on social media.

As RCC celebrates Disability Pride Month, we remain dedicated to equity, inclusivity, and ensuring our college is a place where every individual is valued and supported. Join us in honoring this month and the ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive community for all.
