May 07

The Riverside Community College District (RCCD) welcomed a distinguished cohort of international scholars as part of the U.S. Department of State's 2023-2024 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program. Twenty-two fellows from various countries traveled to ten community colleges, including Riverside City College, Norco College, and Moreno Valley College, to learn about U.S. higher education. RCCD hosted three of the fellows.

During their visit from April 29 to May 3, the Humphrey Fellows participated in enriching activities to foster academic exchange and cultural understanding within the RCCD community. Representing their respective colleges, Wendy Umave from Papua New Guinea (Emory University), Oscar Hendrix from Honduras (University of Minnesota), and David Chak from Malaysia (Vanderbilt University), participated in tailored activities showcasing the college's commitment to scholarly engagement and cultural exchange.

Highlights of their visit to Riverside City College included attending class sessions relevant to their fields of study, participating in a Maker's Space Workshop, and engaging in a panel discussion on global policy issues. The fellows also had the opportunity to tour the campus, interact with college leadership, and join a lunch and learn session with students, faculty, classified professionals, and managers.

The presence of the Humphrey Fellows at Riverside City College signifies the college's dedication to global learning and cultural exchange. Their visit enriched the campus community and provided opportunities for dialogue and collaboration that will have lasting impacts.

The Humphrey Fellowship Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education, fosters leadership among international professionals to address local and global challenges. Through academic study and professional development, the program creates a global network of alumni committed to advancing societal and institutional capacity worldwide.
