Riverside City College Mourns the Loss of a Treasured Student
Riverside City College (RCC) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carlos Daniel “Danny” Pedroza Villalobos, a cherished member of our college community. Danny, age 24, tragically passed away on April 16.
Danny was a dedicated student enrolled in sociology classes majoring in anthropology with aspirations of transferring to pursue a baccalaureate degree. Danny’s academic accomplishments reflect his focus and commitment to learning while at RCC.
In response to this tragedy, RCC is committed to providing support and resources for our students, faculty, classified professionals, and administrators. We are offering drop-in counseling sessions and brought in additional mental health therapists to ensure anyone in need of services has access to resources during this time of grief and healing.
The RCC community is encouraged to take advantage of campus counseling services and external resources. We have organized debriefing sessions in collaboration with Riverside University Health System to provide a supportive environment for processing this loss and supporting one another.
President Oliveros stated:
"We are devastated by the loss of Danny. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. The well-being of our community is our top priority, and we are committed to providing the support and resources needed to navigate through this tragedy together."
The Associated Students of Riverside City College (ASRCC), along with other student groups such as La Casa Engagement Center and The Puente Project & Club, are collaborating to organize a vigil and other ceremonies to honor Danny. Once details are finalized, the college community will be updated.
