School of Nursing Awarded Grant

Riverside City College nursing school students

The School of Nursing (SON) was selected as a recipient of the 2021 Nursing Education Investment Grant Program for its, "A Path for All: Expansion and Diversification of the Successful RCC-CSU ADN-BSN Concurrent Enrollment Program." As a recipient of the grant, the SON will receive $174,334.

The program will implement and promote to other colleges a model of the RCC-CSU Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) that enables our nursing students to simultaneously progress toward Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing (BSN) from partnering California State Universities. The program also addresses the financial barrier students face in completing degrees, by providing access to financial aid through CSUs.

This is SON’s second Nursing Education Investment Grant award. The first was received in 2019 for implementation and support of the CEP and to assist other community colleges across California replicate the model. The CEP program allows qualified pre-nursing students to apply for both the RCC and California State University, Fullerton or California State University, San Bernardino programs.

The CEP program bridges the equity gap for students who may not have the means to pursue higher degrees in nursing and allows them to earn a BSN degree through one of our CSU partners in as little as six months after graduating from RCC.

The newly awarded grant will allow the SON to continue to provide support for the CEP program, support other community colleges to replicate the model, and allow RCC to expand additional pathways to higher degrees in nursing with other educational partners.
