Riverside City College (RCC) proudly served as the host for the 2024 Youth Leadership Conference, organized by the Riverside Latino Network, on Saturday, October 19, 2024. This year’s theme, “Mañana con Ganas: Building Comunidad,” brought together local students, community leaders, and educators for a day of empowerment, learning, and connection.

The conference featured a dynamic keynote address by The Honorable Lucy Armendariz, who shared her inspiring journey from foster care to becoming a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge. With a message of resilience and community impact, Judge Armendariz emphasized the transformative power of education and the importance of giving back.

Attendees participated in a wide range of workshops focused on college preparation, civic engagement, mental health, financial literacy, and leadership development. Some of the session highlights included:

  • "Breaking Generational Curses: Fighting the Imposter Syndrome" led by Dr. Kris Acevedo
  • "Youth and Money: Preparing for Financial Independence" by Karena Zermendo
  • "The Power of Art through Struggle en La Vida" presented by local artist Franky Castle

The event also featured community tabling from local organizations, including the Cheech Art Museum, UCR School of Business, and Altura Credit Union, providing students with resources and opportunities to engage beyond the classroom.

“We are honored to have hosted this year’s conference and to continue our partnership with the Riverside Latino Network,” said Dr. Claire Oliveros, President of RCC. “This event reflects our commitment to empowering students and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where future leaders can thrive.”
