Home Health Aide

Provides overview of home health care agencies. Focuses on the roles and responsibilities of Certified Home Health Aides. Includes discussion of federal & state regulations, guidelines for provision of direct care in home settings, and supervised clinical practice in home or long-term care settings.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  • Provide quality, safe, patient-centered care as a home health aide designed by the state-mandated theory and clinical modules.

  • Demonstrates appropriate ethical, legal and professional principles while implementing the home health aide (HHA) role.

  • Performs the duties of the home health aide (HHA) under the leadership of the licensed vocational or registered nurse.

  • Demonstrates caring behaviors through home health aide skills that positively influence health outcomes and displays sensitivity to the values of others.

  • Maintains collaborative relationships with other members of the healthcare team.

  • Uses critical thinking principles as a home health aide to recognize and report impending emergencies in the home care setting.

  • Utilizes technology to perform designated tasks and skills.
