Riverside City College Celebrates Grand Opening of Business, Law, and Computer Information Systems Building
After nearly two decades of planning and anticipation, Riverside City College (RCC) celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated Business, Law, and Computer Information Systems (CIS) building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour.
The program was led by Kristine Di Memmo, VP of Business Services, and featured remarks from RCCD Chancellor Wolde-Ab Isaac, RCC President Claire Oliveros, Riverside City Councilmember Philip Falcone, and other distinguished speakers.
“This building opens doors, creates opportunities, and uplifts entire communities. It is a physical manifestation of that belief,” said RCCD Chancellor Wolde-Ab Isaac during his remarks, highlighting the building’s significance as more than just a new facility but a pillar of opportunity for the Riverside community.
Janet Lehr, Chair of the Computer Information Systems department, expressed the deep sense of accomplishment shared by the RCC community, noting, “This building was 18 years in the making.” The journey from concept to completion would not have happened without strong leadership and the support of the community.
The building, which originally housed the Life and Physical Sciences departments, underwent a complete transformation, combining innovative design with sustainability. The redesign features cutting-edge technology classrooms, flexible learning spaces, and collaborative environments designed to foster student success in the fields of business, law, and computer information systems.
The renovation project, funded through Measure C and other state and local resources, involved a seismic retrofit, modernized interior spaces, and state-of-the-art facilities, including a mock courtroom and advanced computer labs for students pursuing careers in cyber defense and law.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic ribbon-cutting led by Janet Lehr and Laneshia Judon, Chair of the Business and Law department, surrounded by their fellow faculty, college leaders, District leaders, and community leaders, celebrating the start of a new chapter for RCC students.
This building, designed by 19six Architects and constructed by CW Driver and Soltek Pacific, serves as an academic space and a hub for empowering future leaders. With its commitment to sustainability, the building is on track to receive LEED Silver certification, showcasing RCC’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
“This building represents our investment in the future—where students can gain the skills they need to succeed in a world that demands innovation, adaptability, and collaboration,” said Kristine Di Memmo, reinforcing RCC’s dedication to fostering student achievement and community growth.
The event marked a significant milestone in RCC’s ongoing efforts to enhance the student experience and continue being a cornerstone of educational excellence in the region.
