Connecting You to Your Future: The RCC Career Center Brings Top Recruiters to Campus
As college students near the end of their academic journey, the question of "What's next?" looms over their heads. For many, the answer is securing a job in their desired field. However, navigating the job market can be daunting, especially for students who lack connections and experience. Fortunately, the Riverside City College (RCC) Career Center and the Employment Placement Office have taken steps to make the job hunt easier for Tiger students.
This semester, both departments have brought a range of employers to recruit on campus, from local agencies to multinational companies. These recruitment events have allowed students to meet potential employers face-to-face and learn more about job opportunities in their desired fields.
Disneyland, SoCal Gas, and the Riverside County Office of Education were three recruitment events. Collectively they had 130 students participate. This impressive turnout is a testament to the value these events bring to students. Not only do they provide students with job opportunities, but they also allow them to network with industry professionals, which can lead to mentorship and other opportunities in the future.
The RCC Career Center and the Employment Placement Office will continue to host recruitment events throughout the semester. On Tuesday, April 25th, they will bring military and public safety agencies to campus for a Military and Public Safety Fair. The event will include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Secret Service, California Highway Patrol (CHP), Riverside County Probation Department, Riverside County Sheriff's Department, various military branches, and many other agencies. In total, 16 agencies will be present. This event will provide students with the opportunity to learn more about job opportunities in the public safety sector and to network with professionals in the field.
The Career Center will also host a Business, Information Systems, Technology, and Law Career Fair on Tuesday, May 9th, from 12pm – 2pm at RCC. Over fifteen organizations will be on campus, ready to recruit students for full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities.
According to Courtney Carter, Assistant Professor of Counseling, Career Center Coordinator, and Guided Pathways Coordinator,
"Employer engagement can and should be a part of the student experience. The Career Center and the Employment Placement Office seeks to provide opportunities for students to grow their social capital by networking with employers and industry professionals. This can open doors for employment, mentorship, and much more!"
Events like these are proactive approaches to connect students to resources and opportunities, and are just one of the many ways RCC is working to ensure that their students are prepared for the next step in their careers.
