Acute Care Nursing Assistant - Locally Approved Certificate

Prepares the student to function in the acute care settings including hospitals and sub-acute facilities. Designed to assist Certified Nurse Assistants in adapting their nursing skills to the requirements of clients in acute care settings, including communication, patient assessment, observation, reporting and reinforcement of basic skills and procedures. Includes demonstration of required skills and supervised practice in acute care clinical settings.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

  • Provide quality, safe, patient-centered care as an acute care nursing assistant designed by the state-mandated theory and clinical modules.

  • Demonstrates appropriate ethical, legal and professional principles while implementing the acute care nursing assistant role.

  • Performs the duties of the acute care nursing assistant under the leadership of the licensed vocational or registered nurse.

  • Demonstrates caring behaviors through acute care nursing assistant skills that positively influence health outcomes and displays sensitivity to the values of others.

  • Maintains collaborative relationships with other members of the healthcare team.

  • Uses critical thinking principles as an acute care nursing assistant to recognize and report impending emergencies in the acute care setting.

  • Utilizes technology to perform designated tasks and skills.

Upon completion of the Nursing Assistant Program students are eligible to enroll in Acute Care Nursing Assistant (NNA-81) and Home Health Aide (NNA-86)
