Social Justice Studies - African American Studies

The Associate in Arts for Transfer in Social Justice: African American Studies is designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate programs in Africana Studies/African American Studies/Black Studies/Pan African Studies. The Social Justice: African American Studies will grant students with the opportunity to examine, analyze, and explore African Americans historically, socially, and politically. By employing a multi-disciplinary approach, this program shall allow students to thoroughly consider theoretical frameworks that have impacted the lives of African people in the United States. These theoretical infrastructures primarily include race, gender, and sexuality. Moreover, this course will expose students to the expanse of the African Diaspora, allowing students to recognize connections between African-Americans and African people who lived and are living in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe. California Community College students who are awarded an ADT are guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system. This priority does not guarantee admission to specific majors or campuses.
