Beginning American College English

ESL students are placed within the sequence of courses in the Beginning American College English Certificate according to their English fluency. Students completing this pattern of study will have a proficient level of fluency in the English language which will help them be successful interacting in social situations, participating in introductory courses, and functioning in general employment.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

• Produce writing such as basic academic paragraphs in English at a low-intermediate level.
• Communicate in English so that students can function with native speakers at a basic academic level or business contexts.
• Demonstrate a general awareness of patterns and expectations of United States culture, especially in social and familiar situations.
