Philosophy

Philosophy investigates fundamental questions about knowledge, value, and existence. This program enables students to expand their ability to think critically and improve their skills in oral and written communication. Courses in the major equip students with the ability to read critically, anal yze arguments, and express complex ideas in oral and written work. Philosophy prepares students for a variety of professions such as teaching, law, writing, and jobs in rese arch, management, and technology. Completion of the Philosophy : Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU) or to the University of California (UC) system. For transfer to a UC, meet with a counselo r for additional requirements. The Philosophy program map below includes all of your major coursework and recommended general education courses by term that is needed to fulfill your degree and transfer requirements.

Milestones

Milestones are courses, co-curricular activities and recommendations from your Student Success Team that will keep you on track towards completion of your degree. Check off your milestones as you complete them.
  • Pass English 1A
  • Pass College Level Math (Recomm. Math 12) by the end of year 1
  • Pass laboratory science by the end of year 1
  • Complete Phi 32 and Phi 10, Phi 11, or Phi 12
  • Complete Entry Level Course
  • Complete all remaining G.E. requirements
  • Apply to Universities (CSU/UC application period Oct 1-Nov 30)
